Integrated Delivery System Planner Solution Components

IDS Planner includes two integrated modules for hospital performance improvement:

Physician Activity Tracker (PAT) – PAT supplements conventional enterprise data systems with a comprehensive representation and analysis of physician activity and the systemic implications of that activity.

• Daily Activity Tracker – Collects activity and referral and financial information by case and by physician. It includes a facility for easy physician activity checks and modifications, and a system for communicating error corrections to downstream activities such as billing and scheduling.
• Physician Reporting Services – Provides near real-time feedback to physicians so they can understand the consequences of their activity from operational and financial perspectives. This enables physicians to modify their treatment plans to maximize quality of care while at the same time minimize the cost of care delivery.
• IDS Operations Analyzer – Performs a comprehensive series of analyses to forecast the operational impact of physician activity. The analysis identify potential operational bottlenecks, resource constraints, and opportunities to improve operational effectiveness.
• IDS Financial Analyzer – Integrated with the Operational Analyzer, the Financial Analyzer forecasts full financial results and can identify potential problems and opportunities in a timely manner so that they can be corrected or fully exploited.

IDS Product Line Strategist – Allows management and physicians to run a broad spectrum of “what-if” analyses to understand the full operational and financial implications of potential alternatives. Decisions can span a range of operational considerations (e.g., consequences of a potential treatment plan, strategic considerations such as capex and hiring decisions, etc.).

• IDS Financial Planner – Models detailed fixed and variable costs. Forecasts activities, resources, and capacities to create a comprehensive financial forecast.
• Scenario Manager – Supports analyses involving multiple “what-if” scenarios, including budgeting alternatives, investment alternatives, alternative growth strategies, etc.

Technology Architecture

 

The PAT module is constructed using Microsoft technology along with Enterprise Optimizer for financial forecasting. PAT leverages Microsoft SQL Server 2008 as the central data repository, as well as the primary security mechanism. The solution supports multiple roles within the hospital, such as administrators, physicians, and hospital staff. Particular focus is paid to ease of use and minimizing physician time requirements. Access to the system for input, analysis, and reporting are through familiar Microsoft products, including Excel 2007 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

The IDS Strategist module takes an aggregated version of PAT data and combines it with a constraint-based model. The IDS Strategist module is built on the Microsoft .Net framework and supports multiple roles within the hospital, such as administrators, physicians, and hospital staff, to combine activity data with planning capabilities. The outputs are combined, managed, and presented through a combination of a custom .Net application, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and Excel services. As a multi-tenant application, IDS Strategist allows all constituents in the practice and hospital to contribute to the plan and understand how to best manage revenues and cost.
